Language, Its Structure and Use: Phonemic transcription assignment (for MQuni; unit grade – Credit)
linguists degree
Transcribe the audio of the 10 single words and 1 sentence using the phonemic transcription techniques that have been introduced in tutorials. Use the IPA symbols selected for Australian English phonemic transcription, referred to as the Harrington Cox & Evans (HCE) symbols that are provided on the inside front cover of the textbook (9th edition). Enclose each transcribed word or sentence in slant brackets to indicate the phonemic nature of the transcription. Do not add stress marks or use punctuation.
- It is recommended that you use Richard Ishida's IPA character picker to select your transcription symbols. Then, copy and paste your selected symbols into a Word document.
- Make sure the font you use displays your symbols correctly. The recommended font for transcription is Charis SIL font.
